The Whitsunday’s have been described as “Paradise Found”, an area that combines natural and man-made attributes that remains unique on this planet. It is a swathe of coastal countryside from Mackay in the South to Bowen in the North and a shimmering sprinkle of islands quite breath-taking in their beauty. Snorkeling, diving, island hopping, sailing, cruising, fishing, parasailing, windsurfing, jet skiing, water skiing, kite surfing, bush walking, golfing and whale watching are just a few of the many activities available to you. You can do as much or as little as you like.
The Whitsunday’s is home to some of our planet’s most incredible natural icons including the Great Barrier Reef, Whitehaven Beach, and 74 tropical islands. You can enjoy them all from the sea or from the air.
If you’ve never been here before, you’re about to find out what ‘airlie’ truly stands for:
It’s “wind in you ‘air ,sun on your back”
It’s feeling footloose and ‘airfree’
It’s where ‘airlie to bed’ means hitting the hay before 11pm;
And ‘airlie to rise’ means making it to brunch by noon.
Airlie Beach itself is the heart and soul of the Whitsunday’s and it’s the perfect place to base your Whitsunday holiday. It has a friendly village-type atmosphere with a wonderful selection of shops, restaurants and bars. The now famous $8 million freshwater lagoon provides a wonderful facility for all-year-round swimming, with its friendly beach style design, it’s also become the meeting and greeting point of the Whitsunday mainland.
The town also provides a wide choice of restaurants, al fresco dining, sailing club, supermarkets, shops, banks, medical facilities and tourism service providers to meet all your needs.
Abel Point Marina is the hub of the charter boat industry and the majority of day tour operators and Resort Connections to the Islands and Hamilton Island Airport – only a short stroll from Airlie Beach village (10 minute walk from Portside). Shute Harbour also hosts tour operators and some island ferry transfer departures – only 20 minutes by bus or taxi.
